High-current spikes, particularly during wheel spin or on rough\/uneven surfaces, may trigger the pyro fuse, with risk increasing as the battery ages. For added margin, Plaid Mode is recommended at 7%; 10% should be reserved for smooth drag-strip surfaces, and significantly degraded batteries may require a 9% maximum even at the drag strip. A triggered pyro fuse immediately disconnects the HV battery, resulting in immediate loss of propulsion and requiring a tow. Pyro fuse replacement requires proper high-voltage safety equipment and procedures per the service manual and should be performed by a qualified third party repair facility, not a Tesla Service Center. Significant cell imbalance can reduce power output during extended high-load operation, preventing the battery from sustaining factory power levels.
